Day after day

Day 1Arrival and relaxation in Siwa

Departure in the evening from Cairo and arrival in Siwa the next morning. After a traditional breakfast, you will check into your accommodation and have time to rest. In the afternoon, you will experience the salt lakes and the sunset before relaxing in the hot sulphur springs.

Day 2History, Sources and Islands

After breakfast, you will visit the Temple of Alexander the Great and the Tomb of Si Amun. Afterwards, you will enjoy a break at Cleopatra's Spring. In the evening, the excursion will take you to Breeze Island or by boat to Taghaghien Island and onwards to Al Bayoud Island. Depending on availability, participation in a traditional wedding celebration is also possible.

In the morning, you will participate in a workshop on processing palm leaves. Afterwards, you will enjoy a traditional lunch with a Siwan family, get to know their typical house, and experience henna painting. In the evening, a BBQ in the desert awaits you, followed by stargazing.

Early in the morning, you will hike up Dakrour Mountain to experience the sunrise. After breakfast, a pottery workshop will take place in the historic Shali Fortress. Afterwards, a desert safari will begin with dunes, cold and hot springs, sandboarding, and Bedouin tea at sunset. The day will end with dinner and an overnight stay at the desert camp.

The journey begins with an overnight drive from Cairo to Siwa. The exact departure time and mode of transport will be confirmed with your booking documents.

Can I swim in the salt lakes?

Yes. The salt lakes are a central part of the programme. Swimwear, a towel and bathing shoes are recommended.

What are the overnight stays like in the desert camp?

The conditions are deliberately simple and close to nature. The exact equipment will be confirmed before the start of the trip.

Is the journey physically demanding?

A normal level of fitness is sufficient. The trek up Mount Dakrour and the desert safari can be adapted to the group.

Are vegetarian or vegan meals possible?

What should I bring?

Light daytime clothing, warm clothing for cool nights, sun protection, a hat, sunglasses, swimwear, a towel, toiletries, personal medication, a camera, and a power bank are recommended.
