The Journey

Six days between oases, fossils, dunes and white limestone

This trip leads from Cairo, via Fayoum and the Bahariya Oasis, deep
into the Egyptian desert. You will experience the pottery village of Tunis,
Wadi El-Rayan, Wadi Al-Hitan, the Black Desert, the Crystal Mountain,
vast dune landscapes and the surreal formations of the White Desert.

You will be accompanied by local guides from the oases, who will share their
Homeland, its stories and the quiet places of the desert from its own
experience. Several nights camping make the trip a
intensive nature experience far from the usual routes.

Day 1Cairo – Fayoum

Departure from Cairo to Fayoum. Visit Tunis village, renowned for its artistic pottery. After a traditional Egyptian breakfast, explore workshops and continue to the waterfalls of Wadi El-Rayan, the fossils of Wadi Al-Hitan, the Magic Lake, and the Arabian castles. Dinner and overnight stay under the stars.

Day 2Fayoum – Bahariya Oasis

Drive to Wadi El-Batikh and continue to Bahariya Oasis. After lunch, you’ll discover palm groves, Lake Mamour, and Dinosaur Mountain. Later, you’ll visit a sulphur spring and witness the sunset from English Mountain. Dinner and overnight stay in the desert.

Tag 3Black Desert and White Desert

Visit the Black Desert and have lunch in the Bedouin village of El-Hayez. Afterwards, discover the Crystal Mountain and the English Path. In the evening, you will reach the White Desert, where a communal dinner and a Bedouin circle await you at the camp.

No. The trip will be organised individually upon request. The date, group size, and the subsequent return to Cairo or onward journey to Luxor will be agreed upon together.

What are the overnight stays in the desert like?

Sleep will take place in prepared camps under basic conditions. The exact equipment will be confirmed before the start of the trip.

Is the trip suitable for beginners?

Yes. No special desert experience is required for the trip. Normal basic fitness is sufficient.

How cold does it get at night?

Temperatures can drop significantly depending on the season. Warm clothing for the evenings and nights is therefore important.

Are there toilets and washing facilities?

The equipment varies depending on the camp and the stage. In the desert, the conditions are simpler than in fixed accommodation.

What should I bring?

Light day wear, warm clothing for the night, sun protection, a hat, sunglasses, swimwear, a towel, toiletries, personal medication, a camera, and a power bank are recommended.

Can I travel directly to Luxor after the trip?

Yes. Travel on to Luxor can be organised as an alternative to returning to Cairo.
